History


The town was founded by a Vermont native, Luke Stoughton, in 1847. During the latter part of the 19th century, the community attracted many immigrants of Norwegian heritage. In 1919, the Stoughton Wagon Company promoted the idea of the station wagon by assembling its custom wagon-style bodies on Ford Model T chassis.
